Former Rutgers wide receiver Chris Long Jr. is transferring to Syracuse, he announced via Instagram Tuesday evening. He’s the Orange’s second transfer-portal commitment this offseason, following former Alabama offensive lineman Naquil Betrand, who transferred earlier on Tuesday. Long has one year of eligibility remaining.
Long spent five seasons with the Scarlet Knights after committing ahead of the 2020 season. He never received consistent playing time, though. His best offensive year came in 2022 when he tallied 15 catches for 200 yards in a career-high 12 games played. Long had 11 receptions for 163 yards this past season as a senior, his lone other campaign with over 100 receiving yards.
The Willingboro, New Jersey, native was a four-star prospect out of high school and the No. 8 overall player in the state, per 247Sports. Long is a 6-foot, 177-pound speedster who works best from the slot. He also spent some time as a kick returner in 2021, taking six kicks for 96 return yards.
