Syracuse first-year head coach Fran Brown has been named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, the foundation announced in a press release Tuesday. The honor comes following SU’s 42-38 upset victory over Miami Saturday, where Brown led the Orange to their ninth win of the season and a 4-1 record in November.
The award is given weekly to a coach who led his team to a significant win the previous week, embodying the foundation’s pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity. Since his hiring on Nov. 28, 2023, Brown has done just that.
He’s rejuvenated Syracuse’s program, skyrocketing its recruiting game through the transfer portal and high school players. In his first season helming the Orange, Brown became the third first-year head coach in program history to produce a winning season since World War II.
SU mounted its biggest comeback ever against the Hurricanes, overcoming a 21-0 second-quarter deficit to capture its third-ranked win of the season. The Orange then landed in the AP Top 25 for the first time under Brown, slotting in at No. 23.
