The Department of Public Safety has identified the individual responsible for anti-Semitic graffiti in Bird Library.

The graffiti, which depicted a swastika, was found Tuesday in the lower level of the library. The perpetrator has been referred to Syracuse University’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, DPS announced in a campus-wide email Thursday. 

DPS will not share the perpetrator’s identity to comply with federal privacy laws, the department said.

The incident is one of at least 21 racist, anti-Semitic and bias-related incidents to occur at or near Syracuse University since Nov. 7. A swastika was found etched in a snowbank near Main Campus on Nov. 14, and anti-Semitic graffiti depicting a swastika was found Nov. 16 in Haven Hall. 

“These incidents will be investigated vigorously and individuals will be held responsible in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct, as well as pertinent laws,” DPS said in the email.
