Three-star and Class of 2019 quarterback David Summers has verbally committed to Syracuse, according to Syracuse.com.
Summers, a two-time all-state quarterback at St. Joseph (Connecticut) High School, was committed to Maryland prior to this shift. Summers Twitter bio still reflects that he’s committed to the Terrapins.
Summers is ranked the 54th best pocket passer in his class by 247sports.com. He’s trained with quarterback coach Leon Clarke, who also coaches expected Syracuse starter Tommy DeVito.
The 6-foot-3, 205 pound senior threw for 2,631 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2018 while leading St. Joseph to its second straight state championship.
Adding Summers to the Class of 2019 would alleviate backup quarterback concerns for the Orange as rising sophomore Chance Amie recently put his name in the transfer portal.
