Former Syracuse Director of Athletics Mark Coyle will bring two of his SU staff members to Minnesota with him, UM announced on Thursday morning.
Rhonda McFarland will become Minnesota’s deputy athletics director and chief financial officer while John Cunningham will serve as deputy athletics director for administration.
McFarland served as Syracuse’s associate athletics director for finance working on financial matters for the department. Cunningham takes on the same title he had at SU, where he used his experience in compliance and administration to work on marketing projects.
Coyle left Syracuse to become Minnesota’s AD on May 11. The university’s general counsel Daniel French is SU’s interim athletics director while Herman Frazier was promoted to senior deputy athletic director.
The search committee, which did not include either McFarland or Cunningham, expects to have a new AD in place by the start of the fall semester.
