Davis will not return due to ‘lower-leg injury’
Syracuse outside linebacker Dyshawn Davis suffered a “lower-leg injury” in the second quarter of the North Carolina State game and will not return.
As the N.C. State offense celebrated a touchdown in the end zone, Davis crumpled to the grass and writhed in pain near the 30-yard line.
Davis had blitzed up the middle on a second-and-9 from the SU 21 with 1:11 left in the second quarter, but he didn’t make it to Wolfpack quarterback Pete Thomas.
Davis attempted to get up and walk off the far side of the field, but he could only hobble about halfway before lying back down. Davis smacked his hands against his helmet in frustration as the medical staff appeared to look at his right leg.
After about two minutes, Davis was helped up and off the field. He appeared to be keeping most of his weight on his left leg.
Josh Kirkland filled in for Davis on the Wolfpack’s first drive of the second half. He recorded one tackle and helped force Thomas forward on John Raymon’s third-down sack.
